Nokia 8.1 64GB: A Budget Phone with Flagship Features

Nokia 8.1 64GB is one of the latest offerings from Finnish tech giant HMD Global. The device combines flagship features at an affordable price point, making it an attractive option for those in the market for a new smartphone. Let’s dive into what the Nokia 8.1 64 GB brings to the table.

Display and Design

The Nokia 8.1 64GB features a 6.18-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2246 pixels. The display has a 19:9 aspect ratio and a notch, which houses the front-facing camera and earpiece. The notch may be a turnoff for some, but the device’s slim bezels provide an immersive viewing experience. Nokia has opted for a slightly rounded back, which curves around the edges, making the device comfortable to hold. On the back, there’s a vertical dual camera setup, a circular fingerprint scanner, and the Nokia logo in the middle.

Camera

One of the standout features of the Nokia 8.1 is its dual-camera setup, consisting of a 12-megapixel primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 13-megapixel depth sensor. The cameras perform well in both well-lit and low-light conditions, and the 20-megapixel front camera takes some impressive selfies. The device also has built-in artificial intelligence, which helps improve image quality and adds features such as background blur and portrait lighting effects.

Performance and Storage

Under the hood, the Nokia 8.1 64GB is powered by the Snapdragon 710 SoC, which is a mid-range processor, used in some flagship phones. The device also has 4GB of RAM, which should be sufficient for most users. When it comes to storage, the Nokia 8.1 has 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 400GB via a microSD card slot.

Software

The Nokia 8.1 64GB runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, which is a stock version of the OS, making it a pure Android experience with no bloatware. Nokia has already provided the device with the latest security updates, and timely software upgrades can be expected, making it a unique offering in a time when several devices come with heavily skinned Android versions.

Battery Life

The Nokia 8.1 64GB packs a 3500mAh battery, which is a respectable size. The device can last a full day with moderate usage, and the included 18W fast charger can juice up the device to 50% in around 30 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

The Nokia 8.1 64GB is priced at about $300, making it one of the more affordable options in the mid-range segment. It’s available in three colors – Blue/Silver, Steel/Copper, and Iron/Steel. The device is available for purchase online or through retail channels across multiple markets, including North America, Europe, and Asia.

Final Verdict

The Nokia 8.1 64GB is an impressive smartphone that delivers on both performance and features at an affordable price. The device’s premium design, stock Android experience, and capable camera make it stand out among the competition. If you’re looking for a mid-range device that offers flagship features, the Nokia 8.1 is worth considering.

3 reviews for Nokia 8.1 64GB

  1. Noob

A phone for someone who needs a reliable smartphone. The phone is no longer new, but it offers something like reliability and good workmanship. As for the assets, I will mention an exceptionally good camera that retains its natural colors. There are devices that take more vivid photos, but not natural ones. On the plus side there is also a sound player for headphones much better than N 7.1. The smartphone works smoothly and doesn’t heat up at all. Multimedia and telephone loudspeakers are of good quality. Clear loud conversation not distorted. All sensors work well, especially GPS tracking

  2. Lily

As a tech-savvy person, I decided to give the Nokia 8.1 64GB a try as my new mobile phone. However, my experience with this phone has been quite disappointing and I can only rate it a 2-star out of 5.

One of the features that I was excited about was the built-in camera. While it takes decent pictures, it’s not as good as I expected it to be. The clarity wasn’t great, and the colors seemed a bit off. I’ve seen better results from phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X.

Another letdown was the battery life. I was expecting a full day’s worth of use, but I found myself having to recharge the phone in the middle of the day. This is not ideal for someone who is always on-the-go.

Additionally, the phone’s performance was not up to par. It would often lag or freeze, and I had to restart it multiple times.

Compared to other phones in the market, such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the iPhone XS, the Nokia 8.1 64GB falls short in terms of features and performance. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this phone to anyone looking for a reliable and high-performing device.

  3. Killian

The Nokia 8.1 64GB may have left a sour taste in Lily’s mouth, but as a seasoned tech enthusiast, I couldn’t help but investigate further. While her criticisms were valid, I believe there is more to this phone than meets the eye.

Let’s start with the camera. It’s true that the Nokia 8.1’s camera may not measure up to the likes of Samsung and Apple, but it’s worth mentioning that it still holds its own in certain situations. The 12 MP + 13 MP dual-camera setup is capable of capturing stunning images with vibrant colors and excellent contrast. In low light conditions, the camera may struggle a bit, but overall, I found it to be more than satisfactory for everyday use.

As for the battery life, it’s understandable that Lily was disappointed. The 3500 mAh battery is certainly on the smaller side compared to some of its competitors. However, I did notice that the phone’s battery optimization features helped stretch out the battery life quite a bit. With moderate usage, the Nokia 8.1 should be able to last you through a full day without needing a recharge.

Performance-wise, I did encounter some minor lag and freezing, but nothing too severe. The phone’s Snapdragon 710 processor and 4 GB of RAM are more than capable of handling most tasks with ease. And for the price point, it’s hard to beat the Nokia 8.1’s performance-to-price ratio.

In terms of features, the Nokia 8.1 may not have all the bells and whistles that its competitors do, but it still packs a punch. The phone runs on Android One, which ensures timely software updates and security patches. It also supports HDR10 playback for an immersive viewing experience. And with its sleek design and premium build quality, the Nokia 8.1 is a stylish choice for those who value aesthetics as well as functionality.

So, what about Lily’s comparison to other high-end phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and iPhone XS? While it’s true that those devices may have some advantages over the Nokia 8.1, they also come with a much higher price tag. For the average consumer looking for a solid mid-range phone, the Nokia 8.1 is an excellent choice.

In summary, while the Nokia 8.1 may not be perfect, I believe it’s a highly underrated device that deserves more recognition. It may not have all the features of its more expensive competitors, but it still packs a solid punch in terms of performance and value for money. So, if you’re in the market for a new phone and don’t want to break the bank, the Nokia 8.1 is definitely worth considering.

As for today’s news, here are some highlights: US stocks remained steady as investors prepared for a busy week ahead. Bonds edged closer to a yield of 4.5%. Fed uncertainty continued to rattle markets, with some analysts predicting that interest rates could rise further than expected. Mideast flare-ups in Syria and Gaza added to geopolitical tensions. The number of publicly traded firms shrank for the sixth straight year, as private equity firms continue to snap up companies at a record pace. AI was hailed as a new force in global finance, with its potential uses ranging from fraud detection to personalized investment advice. Gold hit a new peak as investors sought safe havens amid market volatility. And oil prices briefly retreated before rebounding on news that Saudi Arabia and Russia were discussing production cuts. These developments are likely to have far-reaching implications for the global economy, so it’s worth keeping an eye on them as they unfold.
