The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the Korean phone maker's flagship handset for 2012 and has been available in Europe since late May 2012, with release in the US and Canada following in June. The highly anticipated successor to the bestselling Samsung Galaxy S II features a 4.8-inch HD Super Amoled display, a quad core processor, and runs Android 4.0 'Ice Cream Sandwich'. The device features NFC functionality as standard in all markets. Building on Android Beam, Samsung has introduced 'S Beam' which allows instant connection and sharing using NFC and WiFi Direct. A 10GB video file can be shared in around three minutes using a WiFi connection set up over NFC. The Galaxy S III was the official handset of the London 2012 Olympics and provided NFC payment facilities to athletes and VIPs during the games on limited edition versions of the handsets loaded with a Visa PayWave contactless payment application. The Galaxy S III uses a PN65 NFC controller from NXP, which features an embedded secure element. European versions of the phone are the first handsets to ship with Giesecke and Devrient's Mobicore trusted execution environment technology. MasterCard has certified the Samsung Galaxy S III for use with NFC payments worldwide. In the US the device is also approved to run Google Wallet on the Sprint network using its embedded secure element, and to work with Isis on Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T.
