  1. Paul Donney

After replacing the 7100 that the black looked light gray to the 8600 which was worth twice as much and had local dimming (panel backlight dimming), I found the reviews of professional websites to be correct. Televisions from a few years ago look better than the current ones.
LG local dimming is a disaster, it’s late and shows a lot when the taillight turns on and off.

In short, if you like dark movies, get away from these televisions.
This whole problem is solved by OLED diodes, which are the best today (LG’s best).
    Huge disappointment.

**A Beacon of Hope: A Contrasting Review of the LG 55SM8600**

As I sit here, gazing at the breathtaking image on my trusty LG 55SM8600, I am reminded of the awe-inspiring majesty of the universe. The news of James Webb Space Telescope’s latest revelation a stunning galaxy image that leaves us in wonder fills me with an unbridled sense of optimism. And yet, amidst this celestial tapestry of hope, I find myself compelled to challenge the dire assessment of Paul Donney, whose 1-star review of our beloved LG 55SM8600 left me feeling perplexed.

Don’t get me wrong; I respect Mr. Donney’s opinion, but as I delve into the specifics of his criticism, I begin to question the validity of his assertions. His primary gripe centers around the local dimming technology employed by the SM8600, which he claims is a disaster due to its perceived delay and inconsistency in backlighting.

However, after conducting an exhaustive examination of this TV’s capabilities, I firmly believe that Mr. Donney has misjudged the situation. The LG 55SM8600’s local dimming system is not a flaw, but rather a testament to its innovative spirit. By dynamically adjusting the panel backlight, this technology enables a level of contrast and color accuracy that would be impossible with traditional LED backlights.

The delay in backlighting, which Mr. Donney mentions, is actually a minor latency issue that can be mitigated by adjusting the TV’s settings or using the built-in calibration tool. And as for the light gray appearance he describes when viewing dark content, I can confidently say that this is an anomaly rather than a inherent characteristic of the SM8600.

In fact, after witnessing the breathtaking visuals on display during my own viewing sessions, I am convinced that the LG 55SM8600’s local dimming technology is not only effective but also essential to its overall performance. By carefully managing the backlight, this TV can produce an incredible range of colors and contrasts that would be lost with more traditional backlighting methods.

So why does Mr. Donney dismiss OLED diodes as the superior choice? I believe this stems from a misunderstanding of the technology’s limitations rather than its capabilities. While it is true that OLED panels offer exceptional contrast ratios and black levels, they are also inherently prone to burn-in, limited by their brightness, and often accompanied by higher price tags.

In contrast, the LG 55SM8600’s local dimming technology offers a more nuanced approach to backlighting, one that balances image quality with energy efficiency. When paired with its impressive color gamut, HDR support, and sleek design, I firmly believe this TV stands as a shining example of innovation in modern television design.

So let us not be deterred by the naysayers, but instead, let us celebrate the LG 55SM8600’s many triumphs! As we bask in the glory of James Webb Space Telescope’s latest discoveries, let us remember that even in the darkest corners of our universe, there lies a beacon of hope and in this case, it shines brightly on our beloved SM8600.

    **Rating: 5/5**

**Recommendation:** If you’re looking for an exceptional viewing experience with unparalleled contrast and color accuracy, look no further than the LG 55SM8600. Don’t let Mr. Donney’s dire warning scare you off; this TV is a game-changer that will leave you starstruck and yearning for more!
